The Maya Heritage Community Project (MHCP) works in partnership with Maya organizations and people of Maya heritage throughout the United States. In 2007 the MHCP became an approved United States Peace Corps Fellows/USA program.
Maya have emigrated from Middle American classic homelands to reside within the transnational Americas. If acknowledged to be Native Americans they would add greatly to the American indigenous peoples of the United States. If counted as a single group, rather than by language groups, the Maya population would be larger than the Navajo or the Cherokee.
